Sentinel chickens stand between us and the ravages of disease. Day in and day out they put their lives on the line. Weekly their blood is spilt. And if it ever becomes necessary, they lay down their lives so that we can go on living. Without them, we might not know that West Nile Virus or Eastern Equine Encephalitis is lurking in a nearby mosquito population. Let us all take a moment to express our gratitude for these avian protectors.
